city guide

We love Amsterdam and enjoy sharing our beautiful city. We even think every visit to Amsterdam should start at Blue. From here, you can see all the highlights at a glance.

Best breakfast in Amsterdam: Breakfast with a view at Blue

Looking for the best breakfast in Amsterdam? At Blue you start the day above the rooftops, on the top floor of the Kalvertoren shopping centre in the city center. A glass lift takes you up to a round glass pavilion with a stunning view over the canals, a fine start to the day for every foodie.

Blue is a breakfast restaurant in Amsterdam, lunchroom and coffee bar in one. We serve breakfast all-day, so whether you are an early bird or a slow starter, there is always a table with a view waiting for you.

Breakfast in Amsterdam with a view over the city

Breakfast in Amsterdam does not get more scenic than this. While you enjoy your coffee, croissant or granola bowl, the whole city unfolds below you: The Munttoren, the canals and the rooftops of the old city center. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy, the coffee is strong and the view is unbeatable. Many guests call it the tastiest breakfast with the best view in town.

Breakfast classics: From eggs benedict to fluffy pancakes

Our menu is full of breakfast classics and egg dishes, made with fresh ingredients from local suppliers. Our breakfast menu ranges from eggs benedict and eggs royale with smoked salmon to a classic omelette or a perfectly poached egg on avocado toast. Sweet tooth? Go for fluffy pancakes, a crispy waffle or yoghurt with granola, muesli and fresh fruit. We even serve bread with hagelslag, the Dutch breakfast tradition every visitor should try once. Add a fresh juice or a milkshake and you are set for the day.

Breakfast and brunch, all day long

At Blue, breakfast and brunch flow into each other. From noon on, brunch dishes and lunch classics join the menu, so you can eat well at any hour. Great food, great coffee and free-range eggs, always with that view. One thing we do not serve is dinner: We are a daytime place and close at the end of the afternoon.

More great breakfast places in Amsterdam

Of course we are not the only good spot. Amsterdam is full of breakfast places, and as true breakfast lovers we happily share the best places in town. Consider this your mini travel guide to the best breakfast spots and brunch places in Amsterdam:

Bakers and Roasters, Little Collins and Greenwoods

Bakers and Roasters in De Pijp is the New Zealand and Brazilian style baker and roaster classic of the city, famous for its benny and huevos rancheros. Fun fact: This kiwi favourite made Bakers and Roasters Amsterdam a household name. Little Collins serves Melbourne-inspired brunch in Amsterdam with bold flavour combinations, from kimchi to hash browns. And at Greenwoods you tuck into a proper english breakfast in a canal-side setting.

Staring at Jacob, Box Sociaal and Dignita Hoftuin

Staring at Jacob in Amsterdam Oud West is loved for its American-style brunch and chicken on a brioche bun. Box Sociaal, the Aussie all-day cafe on Kadijksplein 16, is one of the nicest locations in Amsterdam east for breakfast and brunch, and Miri Mary nearby serves Indian-inspired brunch dishes like the famous butter chicken benny. Also worth a visit: Dignita Hoftuin in the green Plantage area, The Breakfast Club with several locations in Amsterdam west, a traditional Dutch pancake house along the canals, or a sunday roast later in the day. From the Jordaan to De Pijp, great places for a good breakfast are never far away.

Practical information

Where can you find the best breakfast in Amsterdam city center?

Right above the Kalverstraat: Blue sits on the top floor of the Kalvertoren, a two minute walk from the Flower Market. Perfect places for breakfast in Amsterdam are rare in the busy center, so a quiet table above the crowds is a little luxury.

Do you need to reserve a table?

No reservation needed: Just walk in. For groups, send us a message and we will save you a spot by the window. Weekends are busiest between 10 and 12, so come early for the best view.

Is Blue also a brunch restaurant?

Yes. Besides breakfast we serve brunch and lunch every day of the week, making Blue one of the few places for breakfast, best brunch and lunch in one, with the whole of Amsterdam at your feet. Delicious food with a view: That is the promise.
